This article will walk you through how to apply to the University of Kentucky Graduate School. While this guide is geared toward those applying to fully-online programs, the actual steps in applying are the same for all graduate programs at UK.
Before You Apply
Begin by visiting the UKOnline website and view your selected program page to familiarize yourself with the materials required to complete your application. You can find this information under the section “How to Apply. Keep in mind that various online programs may have different processes, supplementary materials, or application deadlines, so review these specifics either on the website or by contacting the program directly.
When taking online courses, where you live matters. If you reside outside of Kentucky, you should review the program authorization and licensure (if applicable) information specific to your state to confirm that the program can be offered in your state or country, and if relevant, that it meets professional licensure requirements in your state.
Gather Materials
Transcripts
Official transcripts are required if granted admission to the program, but for application purposes you may submit unofficial transcripts. This is especially helpful if you are still in school at the time of applying. We accept both hard-copy official transcripts as well as digital copies, provided that they are sent to us by the institution that you previously attended and are official copies. Have digital transcripts sent to gradtranscripts@uky.edu and hard-copy transcripts can be addressed to the Graduate Admission, 202 Gillis Building, Lexington, KY 40506-0033.
Test Scores
Not all programs require GRE or GMAT, so check the program page to see if test scores are required. If test scores are required, you will self-report in the application and request official scores from the testing agency.
International applicants whose native language is not English must submit an English proficiency test score that meets the minimum requirements of the Graduate School.
To send scores, please view UK’s institution codes for the different testing agencies.
Any Additional Materials Required by the Program
Programs can require different attachments to your application. Be sure to review the list of program application requirements and attach all required materials. This can include:
- References
- Unofficial transcripts
- Resume/CV
- Personal statement
Application Fees
When you are finished with your application, you'll need to pay the application fee. You can check what your application fee is on UK Online's How to Apply Page.
Submission deadlines may vary, so consult the UK Online program page or contact the college directly for program-specific details. For troubleshooting the application system, please reach out to your assigned admission officer.
After Submission
The Graduate School will communicate official decisions to applicants once a determination is made. Questions regarding admissions decisions and timelines should be directed to the program representative. You can see updates about the status of your application by logging back into the application system. Congratulations on taking the first step in furthering your education and career! We eagerly anticipate welcoming you to the University of Kentucky.
