About this Program

Libraries are increasingly called upon to respond to complex social, behavioral and community needs. The Graduate Certificate in Social Work Informed Library Services brings together principles from social work and library science to help professionals serve patrons and communities with greater confidence, compassion and effectiveness.

This nine-credit-hour, fully online certificate explores how trauma-informed practices, community partnerships and evidence-based approaches can strengthen library and public-facing services. Students will learn strategies for responding ethically to challenging situations, connecting individuals with appropriate resources and developing programs that address identified community needs.

Through interdisciplinary coursework, students will also consider the well-being of library employees and other professionals working in settings where they regularly encounter individuals experiencing crisis, hardship or complex social needs.

Because the program is fully online and asynchronous, students can complete coursework with flexibility while balancing professional and personal responsibilities.
