The Master of Education (M.Ed.) is designed for students pursuing a master's degree, while the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) is an advanced degree for those who already hold a master's degree. Is the Ed.S. appropriate if I do not want principal certification?
Yes. The Ed.S. offers a General Educational Leader concentration for professionals interested in leadership roles beyond school administration. This pathway develops skills in organizational improvement, decision-making, collaboration and educational leadership that can be applied in higher education, nonprofit organizations, workforce development and other educational settings. Principal certification is not required for this concentration.
