The UKO Strong Start Badge is designed for faculty and staff who are new to Canvas and online teaching tools, as well as those who want a refresher before the start of term. Completion of the UK Online Strong Start Badge signifies proficiency in the fundamentals of developing an organized, functional, and student-friendly online course environment.
Faculty and staff may earn the badge by completing three eligible UK Online workshops, or by completing two eligible workshops and a personalized session with an instructional designer and/or instructional technologist in support of a specific course need. The final requirement is submission of a personal course development plan outlining how the participant will incorporate the features and strategies covered into their course(s).
Eligible August Workshops
- Canvas 101 (August 18, 2026, 10AM) introduces the layout, navigation, and core tools instructors use to begin building and managing a Canvas course. This workshop is required for the UKO Strong Start Badge. Register for the Canvas 101 workshop here.
- Ready, Set, Launch (August 19, 2026, 10AM) focuses on quality assurance measures and checklists that help instructors prepare an online course for the start of term. This workshop is required for the UKO Strong Start Badge. Register for the Ready, Set, Launch workshop here.
- Introducing the Faculty Media Depot (August 20, 2026, 10AM) highlights UK’s multimedia support for creating engaging, high-quality online course content. Register for the Faculty Media Depot workshop here.
Each workshop must be registered individually. Workshop participants will be directed to self-enroll in the UKO Strong Start Badge course, complete a survey, and submit a final reflection to earn the badge.
