This workshop video provides detailed guidance on the legal risks and factors to consider when delivering online education abroad. It walks viewers through a step-by-step process for addressing global compliance issues in decision-making. The video introduces the role of the Global Compliance Research Group (GCRG), shows how to interpret legal risks presented in the internal dashboards, and highlights both program-specific and country-specific considerations. Participants will learn how to assess risks, advise students, and ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws.

This 30-minute workshop is designed for education professionals, including program compliance liaisons, college and program administrators, recruiters, admission teams, student advisors, and other relevant personnel. This workshop provides a comprehensive overview of state authorization and state licensure compliance required by federal regulations, that apply not only to distance learning programs, but also face-to-face programs preparing students for state-required licensure. Attendees will be introduced to essential compliance concepts, learn how to navigate available resources, and become familiar with related federal regulation requirements.

It highlights potential risks of non-compliance, explains UK’s country review process, and shares illustrative examples. This self-paced, asynchronous course prepares faculty, course developers, and staff who design and instruct online courses at the University of Kentucky to understand the U.S. Department of Education’s regulatory requirements on Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) and Academic Engagement. Learning objectives include:
