Digital Accessibility Starter Kit

This workshop introduces participants to digital accessibility topics in relation to the recent updates to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Buddy Hall from UK Online and Jennifer Pusateri from CELT will talk about some of the most common accessibility barriers in digital content including alternative text, headings, and color contrast and walk participants through a demo of the Ally accessibility tool that is a built-in part of UK’s Canvas platform.

Distance Education Global Compliance: All Things Considered

This workshop video provides detailed guidance on the legal risks and factors to consider when delivering online education abroad. It walks viewers through a step-by-step process for addressing global compliance issues in decision-making. The video introduces the role of the Global Compliance Research Group (GCRG), shows how to interpret legal risks presented in the internal dashboards, and highlights both program-specific and country-specific considerations. Participants will learn how to assess risks, advise students, and ensure compliance with U.S. and international laws.

Introduction to Global Compliance

This introductory video provides an overview of distance education global compliance for UK administrators, academic units, and others involved in offering online programs abroad. It highlights potential risks of non-compliance, explains UK’s country review process, and shares illustrative examples. Viewers are introduced to internal dashboards, the public Global Compliance Map, and other key resources to support informed decision-making.

Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI)

This self-paced, asynchronous course prepares faculty, course developers, and staff who design and instruct online courses at the University of Kentucky to understand the U.S. Department of Education’s regulatory requirements on Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) and Academic Engagement. Learning objectives include:

  • Identifying methods of substantive interaction acceptable for the US Department of Education requirements
  • Recognizing components of regular instruction
  • Identifying academic engagement instructional activities acceptable for U.S. Department of Education requirements
