Canvas has introduced expanded language-translation capabilities to better support multilingual teaching and learning. Through the IgniteAI Translations integration, instructors and students can translate select course communications directly within the platform while retaining the original text for reference.
New Canvas Features
One of the new options, the IgniteAI Translations for Inbox feature, provides the ability to the composer of the message to include a translated version of the message, from a selected set of languages. The composer has the option to show the translation of the message first or second. The person who receives the message will be able to view the translated text while keeping the original message available for reference.
A second feature, IgniteAI Translations for Discussions and Announcements, will allow instructors and students to translate discussion posts, entire discussion threads, and announcements while preserving the original content alongside translated text.
We recognize that some instructors may need to remove the translations option for their courses. To disable this feature, go to course settings, select the feature options tab, locate this feature and select disable.
